Preliminary Title Sequence Analysis 2

Thank you for Smoking's opening title sequence is creative and intricate. The whole foundation is based on consumer products of actual brands of cigarettes. The colour is traditional and tinted, which produces this authentic cardboard style. Along with its use of bold and stark colours and the wiped effect used for the title cards, this makes the sequence pop out of its two dimensional form. The font fluctuates, forever modifying itself to fit that of another type of brand of tobacco; what remains in tact is the use of upper case letters which is an employed tool to show the name's importance. For example Maria Bello's name is in a font reminiscent to that of Malboro's and is even placed on a background that is all to familiar as belonging to the famous brand's. The music is an important tool in the sequence's atmosphere, its country and folk genre are what gives the entire opening a satirical undertone, suggesting to the viewer the movie's theme and direction.

Preliminary Title Sequence Analysis 1

The opening title sequence for Kiss Kiss Bang Bang starts off with an image of a sketched out apartment building, this sets the tone for the rest of sequence as it looks quite mysterious. Incorporated with that is the spine tingling music that has a natural suspenseful feel to it, amplifying the viewers senses. The font is contemporary in sans serif but still formal, by the use of upper case letters which give the words a more masculine quality, as they look stark. This tells the viewer that perhaps the movie will surround and follow a male character that is strong. The credits are placed all over but are never found in the middle of the screen, which could be because they do not want to obstruct the images being shown. They seem to follow the camera movement or the movement of the cartoon as though being pulled from strings this may imply something about the narrative, that our character will be pulled into a situation. They also use a number of different ways to have them fade out, for example the production name is shattered by a fence and Val Kilmer's name is shot and broken into pieces. This could be a pre-mediated look at what will become of his character. It also enforces this idea that images and words have a relationship with each other, responding to each others movements. The range of colours used is red, black and beige as the background, these form most of the title sequence. Each colour connotes some form of mystery, along with the red which connotes blood shed. What is interesting to note is how the images and sound are somehow fused together to form this affiliation of movement, with each note a new leaf is grown.

My First Post =)

My name is Toni :)

I am currently working on a school project for media, with class mates Toni and Christabel. We will be creating an opening sequence to a movie. The movie will touch upon a lot of issues for teenagers and will be raw and realistic. I am very excited to work with my friends as we all have wonderful idea's and I am excited to begin working on the movie, as I hope it will become something that all teenagers will be able to relate with.
