Preliminary Title Sequence Analysis 2

Thank you for Smoking's opening title sequence is creative and intricate. The whole foundation is based on consumer products of actual brands of cigarettes. The colour is traditional and tinted, which produces this authentic cardboard style. Along with its use of bold and stark colours and the wiped effect used for the title cards, this makes the sequence pop out of its two dimensional form. The font fluctuates, forever modifying itself to fit that of another type of brand of tobacco; what remains in tact is the use of upper case letters which is an employed tool to show the name's importance. For example Maria Bello's name is in a font reminiscent to that of Malboro's and is even placed on a background that is all to familiar as belonging to the famous brand's. The music is an important tool in the sequence's atmosphere, its country and folk genre are what gives the entire opening a satirical undertone, suggesting to the viewer the movie's theme and direction.
